Aug. 14, 1889. The imigrant was John Robins of Elizabeth City,
whose son, Dr. Thomas Robins, married Mary, sister of Major Thomas
Hansford, the first Virginian born ever hanged; and settled in Robins."

The records of Gloucester County, lost to fire in 1821 and 1865, are limited in what they can tell us about the colonial
history of the Sherwood property. In addition, the lack of an archaeological survey prevents a firm determination
regarding the presence and period of Native American habitation on the site although it is very likely based on sites of
the Woodland period found in similar conditions on nearby properties (DHR site files). Research into the early land
patents within Abingdon parish determined that the property was originally assigned to John Robins as part of a 2000-
acre patent in 1642 (Mason 1965: 64; Brown 2001). Again, the lack of archaeological survey data prevents a true
assessment of the extent of early occupations at the site. However, while the Robins familys early colonial homestead
is more often associated with the nearby Point Lookout property, the 1840 plat of Sherwood includes reference to the
Old House Creek immediately to the east, perhaps a sign of an early home on the property (GCSPB 1/191).

And this site shows many Robbins that were enlisted in the Revolutionary War. I could not get any dates to match up so I figure they have to be sons or non-related. However, I''ll bet they are so here''s the link: http://vagenweb.org/gloucester/rostern-r.html
